Defence forces visit to FMI Arctic Space Centre at Sodankylä

The Commander in chief of Finnish defense forces General Jarmo Lindberg and Permanent secretary of Ministry of Defense Jukka Juusti visited FMI Arctic Space Centre at Sodankylä on 5-6th of September.

The purpose of the visit was to learn more about the Arctic Space Centre’s satellite ground station activities and remote sensing capabilities and to discuss collaboration. The delegation visited also the FMI’s weather radar on the top of Luosto fell.  Weather radars are important part of weather forecasting. Dual polarization weather radars are also capable of detecting migrating birds, which can be a risk to aviation.
