ITACA all-sky cameras in the MIRACLE network: |
MIRACLE homepage |
Italian All-sky Cameras for Auroral observations (ITACA) are located in Ny Alesund, Svalbard (NAL, 78.92 N and 11.93 E) and in Daneborg (DNB,74.31 N and 20.22 W) in North-East coast of Greenland. The cameras are maintained by the Istituto di Fisica dello Spazio Interplanetario of Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (IFSI/CNR). ITACA cameras have been manufactured by KeoConsultants and the computer system controlling the camera is similar to that of the intensified all-sky cameras of FMI. ITACA supplements the Svalbard part of the MIRACLE instrument network which includes three magnetometers (Ny Alesund, Longyearbyen, and Hornsund) and all-sky camera (Longyearbyen). With the improved instrumentation and together with the other research groups having instrumentation in Svalbard (e.g. UNIS, and EISCAT) we hope to study especially the cusp auroras. Furthermore, by comparing observations made at Svalbard and the MIRACLE mainland stations we are planning to study high-latitude auroras versus the activity in the main oval region. The Principal Investigator of ITACA is Dr. Stefano Massetti (stefano.massetti 'at' ifsi.rm.cnr.it). You can order ITACA data directly from him or together with other MIRACLE data from Kirsti Kauristie (Kirsti.Kauristie 'at' fmi.fi). Before publishing any data, please, contact Stefano Massetti.
