Since 1997 Investigator for the CIDA experiment of the NASA mission CONTOUR to intercept three different comets (a time-of-flight mass spectrometer for the 'in situ' analysis of individual dust particles).
Since 1996 Corresponding member of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA).
Since 1996 Pricipal Investigator for the experiment COSIMA of the ESA comet rendezvous mission ROSETTA (a medium to high mass resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometer for the 'in situ' analysis of individual collected cometary dust particles) .
Since 1995 Principal Investigator for the CIDA experiment of the NASA mission STARDUST to intercept a comet and to measure interstellar dust (a time-of-flight mass spectrometer for the 'in situ' analysis of individual dust particles).
1992-1993 Member of the ESA working group for the definition of an alternate ESA-only ROSETTA mission.
1986-1992 Principal investigator for the experiment CoMA of the comet-mission CRAF. (High mass resolution time-of-flight mass-spectrometer for the 'in situ' Analysis of picogram dust-particles.)
1985-1990 Principal investigator (together with a Soviet and a Finnish colleague) for the Experiment LIMA-D onboard both PHOBOS-probes of the soviet space agency Interkosmos. (time-of-flight mass-spectrometer for laser-generated ions at large distances).
Since 1981 Principal investigator for the experiments PIA onboard the ESA probe GIOTTO and PUMA1/2 onboard the soviet missions VEGA 1/2. (time-of-flight mass-spectrometers for femtogram dust particles).
