Rosetta Philae CDMS Mass Memory

The Mass Memory of the Rosetta Lander Philae is storing all data collected during the Lander's operation. In case of failing power the data are saved in a radiation hardened EEPROM. Once a communication link is established with the orbiter, the data are transmitted automatically by the Mass Memory's own controller which also controls error bit corrections and resending of data packages in case of link failure. The Command and Data Management System CDMS continues during this time with the control and monitoring of the various instrument on board the Lander.

The Mass Memory system was designed and built at FMI in cooperation with various industrial partners in Finland.
