SWAN Full Sky Map at Lyman alpha wavelength. The equator depicts the ecliptic
plane, along which the spacecraft SOHO moves. On this day in October Soho is on
the right hand side with the geocorona just visible as white dot at 45 deg. The
black signature above the spacecraft and the white area at 180 deg are shadows /
reflections from the spacecraft.

SWAN Full Sky Map at Lyman alpha wavelength. The equator depicts the ecliptic
plane, along which the spacecraft SOHO moves. The comet Hyakutake is at its
closest approach to the earth and covers a large part of the northeastern
hemisphere at this wavelength.

SWAN Full Sky Map at Lyman alpha wavelength with active Hydrogen-cell Lyman
alpha filter. Displayed is the ratio between filtered and unfiltered intensity.
The filter reduces the unshifted Lyman alpha intensity, thereby emphasizing any
Doppler shifts. The darker the intensity representation in this image the larger
the relative velocity of the observed Hydrogen atoms which scatter the solar
Lyman alpha radiation.
