Can a solar proton event eliminate the ozone layer?
|
ObjectiveSolar proton injections have been shown to destroy ozone in the middle atmosphere. Here, the intention is to investigate using statistical means how strong should the solar proton fluxes be in order to totally eliminate of the ozone layer.Exercise outlineCorrelate the measured proton fluxes (at geostationary orbit) and the amount of ozone in the middle atmosphere. Extrapolate from the correlation distribution the proton flux that would totally destroy the ozone layer.Data
