Geomagnetically induced currents (GIC)

This is the GIC data page of FMI mostly intended for expert use. A general description of GIC is available at our GIC Now! server. FMI has co-operated with Fingrid Oyj and Gasum Oy since 1970's to model and measure GIC in the Finnish high-voltage power system (Fingrid) and in the Finnish natural gas pipeline network (Gasum).

Use the navigation bar on the left hand side for plots of pipeline GIC.

Sample plots of GIC measured in the power system are publicly available for the period of the international Space Weather Month campaign (September 1999) organized by SCOSTEP/S-RAMP. During the campaign, Nordic GIC data from several other sources were also collected to the FMI SCOSTEP dataset.
