Sodankylä’s all-time highest snow depth recorded

The highest snow depth record of the entire Sodankylä measurement history was measured on 14th April 2020 in the Arctic Space Centre station. The new Sodankylä record is 125 cm, which exceeds the previous day record of 122 cm.

Daily snow depth has been measured in Sodankylä since 1911. The measurements have been made at the same station area since 1913. Manual observations using measurement stick were replaced by automated ultrasonic instrument in 2008.
