Finland’s first satellite, the Aalto-1 CubeSat, has completed its mission and re-entered the atmosphere.

According to a refined analysis by the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) and Aalto University, the satellite deorbited between 01 SEP 0900Z and 02 SEP 0300Z. The exact location of re-entry is unknown at this time. However, based on the latest orbit analysis, there is an 88.3% confidence that the satellite re-entered over a sea or polar region.

The FMI is currently developing capabilities to establish the Finnish Space Situational Awareness Center (FSSAC). This effort includes more accurate modeling of Earth’s thermosphere, which will enable more precise deorbit predictions in the future.
