EUMETSAT Director General visited Sodankylä

On the 7th of September 2022, Jussi Kaurola, Director General of Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) introduced the Arctic Space Centre’s (FMI-ARC) research and satellite ground segment infrastructure in Sodankylä to the executive of EUMETSAT including Phil Evans, Director General of EUMETSAT (since 1 January 2021) and Frederic Pradeilles, Director of Technical & Scientific Support.

Discussions focused on ongoing and planned co-operative activities in satellite data reception, calibration, and validation of satellite observations/products, as well as European activities related to space weather monitoring.

As part of the visit, a seminar on “Current EUMETSAT activities and Arctic strategy at FMI” was held in FMI Helsinki premises.
