NOAA-NESDIS visited Sodankylä Arctic Space Centre

Co-operation between NOAA and FMI was enhanced by the visit of NOAA-NESDIS to Sodankylä Arctic Space Centre, led by the Deputy Assistant Administrator Irene Parker. The 6th of March 2024 visit to Sodankylä was hosted by Petteri Taalas, Director General of Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI).

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) and NOAA, Office of Space Commerce (OSC) together with the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) had discussions on the ongoing and planned co-operation concerning satellite data reception, satellite data CAL/VAL, as well as space weather monitoring and space situational awareness.

FMI and NOAA made a framework agreement on scientific and operational co-operation at the turn of the year 2020 – 2021. The discussions advanced and deepened the plans for upcoming work.
